OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, etc., Emphasize AI Safety and Accelerate Product Advancement

Recently, the AI industry has seen a series of announcements emphasizing AI safety and product advancement. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta are at the forefront.

First, OpenAI has stated that it will not pursue an initial public offering (IPO) before 2026. CEO Sam Altman explained that the current time is an ‘ill-advised moment’ to pursue an IPO, and the current priority is ensuring AI safety.

Second, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, warned that the pace of AI technological advancement should not outpace the development of regulations and safeguards. He stated that the industry as a whole must immediately adjust its pace of progress, or it could face catastrophic consequences within the next few months.

Third, Meta has launched its personal AI agent ‘Muse’ in the U.S. via iOS, Android, and the muse.ai platform. Muse can be used for setting user goals, coordinating time and resources, and handling various daily tasks, and it operates within its own ‘Muse Secure VM’ for safety and privacy protection. It is also available within other Meta services, including WhatsApp. (Meta also announced the Muse Spark 1.3 update, significantly enhancing the performance of agentic tasks and coding tasks.)

Fourth, OpenAI has brought Paul Christiano, a researcher in AI safety, onto the board of the OpenAI Foundation. He also participates in the OpenAI Group PBC board as a non-voting observer and has been appointed as a member of the Foundation's Safety and Security Committee. This committee oversees OpenAI's overall safety and security practices.

These movements demonstrate a growing industry awareness that AI technology development and safety assurance must go hand-in-hand. As products provided to users directly impact daily life, privacy, responsible design, and alignment are emerging as critical issues.

The AI industry is currently in a transitional phase, moving from an initial ‘capability-centric’ stage to a ‘safety-centric’ maturity. These announcements serve as an opportunity to reaffirm both optimism about technological progress and the need to manage and control the potential risks that such progress may bring.
