RLUSD has surpassed $2 billion in less than two years since its launch, taking the lead in Ripple's Real-World Asset (RWA) business.
According to U.Today on September 1 (local time), Jack McDonald, Senior Vice President of Ripple Stablecoins, will attend the Real-World Asset Summit held in Brooklyn, USA, from September 1-2, as a speaker. McDonald will participate in a discussion on the second day of the event, focusing on the global expansion of stablecoins. Announcing his attendance, he stated, "RLUSD will be at the center of the discussion."
RLUSD first exceeded $2 billion last August, with over $1 billion issued on the XRP Ledger. McDonald emphasized that this achievement was made in less than two years since RLUSD's launch. A new monthly independent verification report was also released.
Ripple is also expanding its strategy to utilize RLUSD as a settlement method for real-world asset transactions. It has strategically invested in ZILO and Licuido to expand the XRP Ledger-based digital capital market infrastructure. In tokenized asset transactions, RLUSD serves as a regulated cash settlement instrument.
Its usage is also growing in exchange and institutional lending markets. Bybit launched a phase 2 program after surpassing $50 million in custodial assets within 11 days of starting its RLUSD holding program. Ripple is also pursuing institutional lending on the XRP Ledger in partnership with Clearpool and Cicada Partners. RLUSD is used as a credit asset for loans provided to fintech and payment companies.
Real-world economic application cases have also emerged. Ripple utilized RLUSD for providing insurance and credit to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya, in collaboration with Mercy Corps Ventures, BlockBima, and Fortune Credit. U.Today reported that in this initiative, payment times were reduced by 97%, and costs were lowered by 3,000 times. With RLUSD exceeding $2 billion in volume, Ripple is accelerating the expansion of its use cases, connecting tokenized assets, institutional lending, and real-world payments.
