Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance, presented the growth in his X (formerly Twitter) followers as a leading indicator for the cryptocurrency market cycle.
According to Benzinga on September 1 (local time), Changpeng Zhao stated that the rapid increase in his X followers has served as a "consistent early indicator" across several market cycles. On August 12, he also shared a post indicating that his follower count was steadily increasing while the price of BNB was rising. However, Benzinga drew a line, stating that there is no research yet proving the correlation between the two trends, and that it is Changpeng Zhao's personal observation.
Changpeng Zhao maintained an optimistic stance on Bitcoin's (BTC) long-term growth prospects. He has suggested a strategy for increasing profits in volatile markets: selling when investor sentiment reaches extreme greed, and buying when extreme fear appears. Recently, he also predicted that "Bitcoin will continue to grow," and that BNB and other competitive cryptocurrency projects would grow alongside it.
Changpeng Zhao's asset composition is concentrated in BNB. According to data released last year, the proportion of BNB in his cryptocurrency portfolio exceeded 98%, while Bitcoin accounted for only 1.32%. Benzinga introduced his asset size as $114 billion and estimated that he also holds about 90% of Binance shares.
Changpeng Zhao's remarks came shortly after the cryptocurrency market rebounded strongly in August. Bitcoin rose more than 23% during August, recording its third-highest August return ever. Although the increase in followers has not been verified as an indicator for predicting market cycles, Changpeng Zhao noted that the recent increase in social media interest and the cryptocurrency bull run are occurring simultaneously.
