A U.S. Senate investigation revealed that 84% of 846 cryptocurrency wallets linked to Iran and sanctioned by the United States and Israel processed all or almost all transactions in Tether (USDT). The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) explained, "The U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations pointed out that USDT has become a primary payment method for the Iranian regime and a means of fundraising for armed groups such as Hezbollah. The report criticized Tether for not freezing sanctioned wallets quickly enough."
