Cardano (ADA) surged 8% in a single day after officially joining the artificial intelligence (AI) payment standard ecosystem, following Solana (SOL) and XRP. It showed a sharp rebound as AI agents entered the machine-to-machine (M2M) payment infrastructure, allowing them to directly pay for software service usage fees.
According to U.S. financial media outlet Benzinga on September 22 (local time), Cardano officially joined the x402 payment standard Software Development Kit (SDK). Bolstered by this, Cardano's price rose 8% in 24 hours, targeting its technical price goal of $0.2563.
The x402 standard is an infrastructure that utilizes the '402 Payment Required' status code, which had been dormant in web specifications, to enable AI agents to make micro-payments for online services on a per-transaction basis without human intervention. It is a protocol developed by Coinbase and transferred to an entity under the Linux Foundation, with participation from Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe. Solana, XRP Ledger, and multiple Ethereum-compatible networks have already adopted it.
Through this integration, developers can now design AI agents to instantly purchase data or computational power with Cardano or Cardano ecosystem tokens, without requiring separate registration or credit card input. Cardano Foundation engineers have built client and server software to process payment requests, as well as transaction verification facilitators, and have completed real-transaction verification in a testnet environment.
Across the virtual asset market, the competition among blockchain infrastructures to dominate the AI agent economy is intensifying. With Cardano joining the payment rail previously led by Solana and XRP, scalability for actual commercial services and network throughput are expected to become key metrics for future stock and coin values.
