Connecticut authorities in the U.S. have issued a consumer warning about overseas DeFi trading platforms, revealing a case where a local resident lost $200,000 (approximately 270 million KRW) in a scam impersonating an acquaintance. Connecticut Attorney General William Tong strongly criticized seven unregulated overseas platforms by name, including GMX, dYdX, and Hyperliquid, calling them "exploitation, not innovation." He emphasized, "These platforms offer high-leverage up to 250x and trading of synthetic assets rather than actual stocks, posing a significant risk of total principal liquidation even with minor price fluctuations. Due to the decentralized nature of these transactions, recovering funds is virtually impossible." The prosecutor also added, "Secondary scams are rampant, demanding upfront fees to recover stolen funds. Residents need to verify whether a service is officially registered and report incidents promptly."
