Decrypt reported that the Group of Seven (G7) urged governments and businesses to begin transitioning to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) now, in preparation for the possibility that existing cryptographic systems could be rendered useless by the advancement of quantum computing. In a recent report, the G7 explained, "While the exact timing when powerful quantum computers can widely decrypt public-key cryptography is uncertain, proactive measures are necessary given recent technological developments. There is also a possibility of attacks where currently stolen encrypted data is stored and then decrypted by future quantum computers." Although the report did not directly mention cryptocurrencies, public-key cryptographic technology is also used in blockchain wallets and transaction signatures.
