Bitcoin (BTC) has broken through the 50-week moving average, which has been considered a key resistance level in the bear market, bringing the $82,000 to $83,000 range within sight.
According to U.Today on September 3 (local time), Bitcoin strongly surpassed its 50-week moving average. Its intraday high reached $81,797, with a 24-hour increase exceeding 5%. The next key resistance level is set at the $82,000 to $83,000 range.
The 50-week moving average is gaining attention as a key criterion for determining the end of a bear market. Galaxy Research indicated this moving average at approximately $81,041. On August 25, Bitcoin had also risen to $81,265, but was pushed back near the 50-week moving average, which was around $81,085 at the time. This time, with a strong daily candle surge exceeding this level, the weekly close has become crucial.
In past Bitcoin bear markets, the 50-week moving average has acted as a 'ceiling,' preventing price increases. After recording a high exceeding $124,000 at the end of 2025, Bitcoin continued a downtrend with lower highs and lower lows. In previous bear markets, the weekly closing price repeatedly remained below the 50-week moving average until the market approached its final stages.
In the derivatives market, short position liquidations fueled the uptrend. According to Coinglass, Bitcoin's 24-hour futures trading volume reached approximately $84.74 billion, with open interest at about $57.86 billion. Liquidations during the same period amounted to approximately $229.56 million. Of this, short position liquidations accounted for the majority at $214.81 million, while long positions amounted to only $14.74 million.
As Bitcoin reclaimed its 50-week moving average, the technical focus has shifted to the weekly close and whether it can break through the $82,000-$83,000 resistance. In the derivatives market, large-scale short position liquidations and an increase in open interest occurred simultaneously, expanding volatility.
