Michael Saylor, Chairman of Strategy (MSTR), likened buying Bitcoin (BTC) to a long-term game of golf.
According to U.Today on September 3 (local time), Saylor released a 25-second video filmed on a golf course. Along with scenes of him in a suit repeatedly putting balls into a hole, he delivered the message that consistency and calmness are needed for Bitcoin investment. He said, “Rich people like to buy Bitcoin,” and “If you buy Bitcoin, you get rich.” He then added, “I should buy some Bitcoin.”
Saylor's long-term holding strategy is also fully evident in the company's performance statement. In its September report, Strategy recorded a Total Reserve Capital (TRC) of $66 billion. This ranks second among S&P 500 financial companies, following Berkshire Hathaway's $364 billion. The ratio of obligations to reserve assets was tallied at 10.75 times.
What is noteworthy is the trading method. Strategy sold approximately 7,000 BTC for $60,000-$65,000 during the summer, then repurchased 4,603 BTC at the end of August. The average repurchase price was $80,318, with an investment of $370 million. Phong Le, CEO of Strategy, explained, “The decision depends not on the price of Bitcoin, but on the cost of capital.” This suggests that the reason for selling at a lower price and buying back at a higher price should be sought in a fundraising strategy, not simple trading profit.
Le stated that the summer sale was a measure to cover obligations related to preferred stock. Afterward, Strategy raised $602.8 million in the stock market and resumed buying Bitcoin. He expressed the position that if the fundraising conditions are met, they can buy Bitcoin even if it reaches $100,000. Strategy holds 845,050 BTC, valued at approximately $65.2 billion. Its cash holdings are $6.7 billion.
However, there are also criticisms that the total reserve capital figures cannot be taken at face value. According to an analysis cited by U.Today, the indicator does not reflect preferred stock obligations amounting to $14.8 billion. Excluding this, the net reserve assets drop to $50.7 billion. The core of Saylor's long-term game, likened to golf, is not about predicting short-term prices. The emphasis is on a capital management strategy that adjusts the proportion of Bitcoin according to fundraising conditions.
