Chinese humanoid robot company Unitree surged approximately 500% on its first day of listing on the Shanghai stock market, with its corporate value soaring to around $62 billion.
According to Bitcoin.com on September 2 (local time), Unitree, headquartered in Hangzhou, saw a concentrated buying spree from investors immediately after its listing on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The stock price surged by up to 629% during intraday trading compared to its public offering price. The public offering price was 150.8 yuan. With an approximate 500% increase on the first day of listing, the company's value reached approximately 445 billion yuan.
What fueled the investment frenzy was the new humanoid robot ‘Superman’ unveiled ahead of the listing. In a video released by Unitree, Superman ran at 12.66 m/s and jumped up to about 2 meters high. This speed is approximately 28 miles per hour. The demonstration, highlighting the humanoid robot's mobility performance, attracted market attention ahead of the listing.
Unitree has also been expanding its connections with US big tech companies. The company's robots are reportedly used as platforms for research and prototype development by Nvidia, Google, and Amazon. In China, over 140 companies have introduced more than 330 types of humanoid robot models in recent years. China's robot industry ecosystem, with its tightly integrated component suppliers, factories, and research institutes, has also been cited as a background for Unitree's growth.
However, regulatory pressure from the United States remains a variable. In June, the US Department of Defense added Unitree to the list of 'Chinese military companies' operating directly or indirectly in the United States. In July, the US government also pursued measures to restrict the import of foreign-made humanoid robots for national security reasons. Regardless of the explosive surge Unitree recorded on its first day of listing, the regulatory environment surrounding the US market is becoming increasingly stringent.
