A brief response from Robinhood (Robinhood, HOOD)'s CEO has once again raised expectations for additional memecoin listings.

According to U.Today on September 1 (local time), CEO Vlad Tenev responded to an X (formerly Twitter) post calling for Robinhood's expansion into memecoins with an ear emoji. The post re-shared a suggestion, "Memecoins on Robinhood," which was originally posted in July. Following Tenev's reaction, speculation that Robinhood might expand its memecoin business has resurfaced.

Robinhood launched Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum (ETH) compatible Layer 2, last July. According to blockchain analytics firm Arkham, Robinhood Chain recently recorded more network fees than Solana (SOL), Base, and Ethereum. Tenev stated last July that Robinhood Chain was being built for real-world assets (RWA) but also noted that "it works very well for memes."

Robinhood has been handling memecoins since early on. Dogecoin (DOGE) was listed on July 16, 2018. This was approximately three years before 2021, when retail investors' memecoin trading exploded. Shiba Inu (SHIB) was added on April 12, 2022, following continuous listing demands from the community.

Currently, Robinhood's cryptocurrency trading list in the US includes several memecoins such as Pepe (PEPE), Bonk (BONK), Dogwifhat (WIF), Floki (FLOKI), and Pudgy Penguins (PENGU). As Robinhood Chain rapidly grew into a network with active speculative trading, memecoins also established themselves as a major cryptocurrency sector on the platform.
