Firmus, an AI infrastructure company invested in by Nvidia (NVDA), has raised $2 billion in new funding. Its valuation has exceeded $10.5 billion. Wall Street is presenting Nvidia's 12-month average price target at $308.69.
According to cryptocurrency media outlet Beincrypto on August 7 (local time), Firmus raised $2 billion in a fully subscribed equity investment round. Nvidia and Coatue Management participated as follow-on investors. Funds managed by Blackstone and Jane Street joined the investment for the first time. Firmus's valuation has exceeded $10.5 billion.
Firmus will inject the raised funds into Project Southgate, an AI learning and inference facility construction project being pursued in Australia. The company will also expand its business into the Asia-Pacific region, including new development projects announced in Indonesia. Firmus, which started as a cooling technology supplier for Bitcoin mining, later shifted its focus to data center operations utilizing Nvidia DSX designs. Over the past year, it has raised over $3 billion in equity. Its valuation, which was $5.5 billion in April, has nearly doubled.
Collaboration between Nvidia and Firmus is also expanding. In June, the two companies signed an agreement for Firmus to purchase Nvidia infrastructure and resell Nvidia-based cloud services. Prior to this investment, a contract related to SpaceX satellite computing was also announced. Beincrypto analyzed that the series of large-scale investments demonstrates that AI infrastructure spending around the Nvidia ecosystem is being maintained.
Wall Street's outlook for Nvidia is also bullish. Out of 37 analysts covering Nvidia, 36 issued a 'buy' rating, and one suggested 'hold'. There were no 'sell' ratings. The 12-month average price target was compiled at $308.69, with a target price range of $250 to $500. Bernstein and Wells Fargo each set a target of $315. Nvidia's all-time high, recorded on May 14, was $236.54.
However, the debate surrounding the AI investment frenzy continues. Michael Burry raised questions about the sustainability of AI investment demand, stating that Nvidia is helping fund customers who purchase its chips. Beincrypto pointed out that while Firmus's $2 billion funding alone won't end the AI bubble debate, substantial capital continues to flow into Nvidia-related projects. Nvidia is scheduled to announce its earnings on August 26.
