Billionaire investor Tim Draper flatly denied rumors of a 1,000 BTC transfer to Coinbase Prime, reiterating his forecast of Bitcoin (BTC) reaching $250,000. Amid controversy over the owner of a large transfer worth approximately $62 million, Draper drew a line, stating, "I haven't touched my Bitcoin."
According to crypto media outlet Cointelegraph on July 4 (local time), blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain stated last Friday that a wallet potentially linked to Draper moved 1,000 BTC, worth approximately $62 million, to Coinbase Prime. Lookonchain cited Arkham data as evidence, but Draper directly denied it, saying, "I haven't touched my Bitcoin." He also maintained his forecast that Bitcoin would reach $250,000 within a year.
The core of the controversy is the issue of wallet owner identification. Arkham applied an AI-based entity prediction feature to the wallet, labeling it 'Tim Draper?'. This feature is a low-confidence classification that estimates the potential owner of a wallet address. The wallet's transaction history shows multiple transactions with Coinbase Prime over the past year, including a record of receiving 1,000 BTC from Coinbase Prime on July 9 last year.
Draper gained recognition as a prominent early investor in the cryptocurrency market when he successfully bid on approximately 30,000 BTC seized by the U.S. Marshals Service from Silk Road-related assets in 2014. He paid approximately $18.7 million at the time, with a purchase price of about $632 per Bitcoin. The value of that amount was estimated to be approximately $1.9 billion as of the time of writing.
This isn't the first time Draper has made a $250,000 forecast. He has been proposing the same target price since at least 2018, initially expecting Bitcoin to reach $250,000 by late 2022 or early 2023. However, Bitcoin's all-time high, recorded on October 6 last year, was $126,080, which remained half of Draper's target.
In Polymarket's 2026 Bitcoin price prediction market, bets were concentrated in the $65,000-$70,000 range, with approximately $68,000 reflected as the most likely outcome. Although Draper has missed his target dates multiple times in the past, he has not retracted his $250,000 forecast this time either, and also stated that the rumored 1,000 BTC transfer was not his transaction.
