The 'Alpenglow' upgrade, the largest consensus algorithm overhaul in Solana (SOL) history, has reportedly entered official testing. According to CoinDesk, Anza, one of Solana's core development teams, announced on its official X on the 11th (local time) that "Alpenglow is running in the community test cluster." This means that validator operators can test Solana's latest consensus system, which combines the existing Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism with TowerBFT and Proof-of-History. In this regard, CoinDesk explained, "The Alpenglow upgrade focuses on replacing key components of the Solana blockchain system with a redesigned framework, allowing validators to communicate and scale blocks faster and more efficiently. Ultimately, the goal is to reduce transaction finality time from several seconds to near real-time."
