Web3 security firm CertiK reported an increase in violent incidents targeting cryptocurrency holders, known as 'Wrench Attacks'. According to The Block, 34 Wrench Attack incidents were confirmed globally in 2026, marking a 41% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The scale of damages is approximately $101 million. If this trend continues, hundreds of millions of dollars in losses are expected throughout 2026. Of the 34 reported attacks, 28 (82%) are known to have occurred in Europe. In this regard, CertiK stated, "The incidence of Wrench Attacks is high in Europe, especially France. Several factors have contributed to this, including a culture of ostentation deeply rooted in the community and a culture of voluntary disclosure of personal information." They also pointed out, "Recently, there has been an increase in cases where family members of primary targets (spouses, children, parents) are directly victimized or used as a means of exerting pressure."
