A warning has emerged that the future of Cardano (ADA) depends solely on its 'maintenance budget'.
According to cryptocurrency media outlet Bitcoinist on May 2 (local time), Input Output Global (IOG) emphasized that the maintenance of Cardano network's core infrastructure is the foundation for all future upgrades, applications, and daily operations. IOG stated, “Everything on Cardano depends on this,” highlighting the importance of maintenance.
This proposal covers the period from Q3 2026 to Q1 2027, requesting a treasury expenditure of approximately 62,134,630 ADA. IOG defined maintenance not merely as a cost but as an 'essential foundation' that enables the platform's overall functionality. It explained that without network stability and reliability, any additional features would be meaningless.
Specifically, the program includes a wide range of tasks such as bug fixes, security patches, performance improvements, node operation support, network monitoring, disaster recovery, and data analysis. In terms of the development environment, it was found to include CI/CD systems, testnet operations, mainnet monitoring, GitHub issue management, Ledger performance improvements, and API and CLI maintenance.
IOG emphasized that these tasks are conducted as 'continuous operations' rather than a phased roadmap. This means it's a parallel operating system designed to maintain the stability of the entire network, not focused on specific feature releases. Staking pool operators also warned that without maintenance, repeatedly needed for node improvements and security updates, “the next crisis will not be endured.”
Given that Cardano currently supports billions of dollars in value and thousands of applications, maintenance is considered a necessity, not an option. The media analyzed that the expansion of the Cardano ecosystem ultimately depends on whether this foundation is maintained. Meanwhile, ADA was trading at $0.2480 at the time of reporting.
