Independent researcher Giancarlo Relli successfully decrypted a 15-bit Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) key using public quantum hardware, receiving a 1 BTC (approximately $78,000) bounty offered by Project Eleven, CoinDesk reported. This is the largest quantum attack demonstration to date, 512 times larger than the record set last September. While it does not immediately threaten Bitcoin's 256-bit security system, experts point out that the realization speed of quantum attacks is faster than expected. The estimated number of physical qubits required to actually decrypt 256 bits recently plummeted to less than 500,000.
