White House Spokesperson Caroline Leavitt
The White House announced on the 22nd (local time) that U.S. President Donald Trump has not set a specific deadline for receiving a 'unified proposal' from Iran.
White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt told reporters today, "Contrary to some reports I've seen today, the President has not set a firm deadline for receiving Iran's proposal."
Fox News reported that President Trump also stated in an interview with Fox News that the '3-5 day deadline' was not true, adding, "We are not in a hurry in talks with Iran."
The previous day, President Trump announced that he would receive a 'unified negotiation proposal' from the Iranian government in the future and extend the truce until negotiations concluded one way or another. However, the online media outlet Axios reported, citing anonymous officials, that President Trump was willing to give Iran an additional 3 to 5 days for the truce period.
Spokesperson Leavitt emphasized, "There is clearly a lot of division within (Iran). This is currently a battle between pragmatists and hardliners within Iran, and the President wants a unified response."
Spokesperson Leavitt stated, "While we await that response, the ceasefire on military and physical strikes is being maintained, but Operation 'Grand Fury' continues, and the naval blockade on ships entering and leaving Iranian ports also continues."
She added, "The President is satisfied with the situation while we await their response."
