Delivery platform DoorDash announced that it has partnered with Tempo blockchain to introduce stablecoin payment infrastructure.
According to the cryptocurrency specialized media outlet Cointelegraph on April 22 (local time), Tempo blockchain stated that it is building stablecoin-based payment infrastructure for users, delivery drivers, and merchants with DoorDash. This integration aims to improve settlement speed, reduce cross-border costs, and expand transaction flexibility, with users in over 40 countries targeted for application.
Andy Wang, co-founder of DoorDash, said, “If we can pay merchants and dashers faster and reduce the costs in the process, it’s a natural choice for the entire ecosystem.” Cointelegraph pointed out that this move is a significant case where a major delivery app is fully adopting digital asset payment rails into its everyday settlement system.
Tempo introduced this announcement not as a DoorDash standalone project but as part of a stablecoin expansion strategy pursued with Stripe, Paradigm, Coastal Bank, and ARQ. The competition for stablecoin infrastructure is also accelerating across the payment industry. Cointelegraph reported that Stripe agreed to acquire the stablecoin platform Bridge for $1.1 billion in 2024, Mastercard agreed to acquire stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK for $1.8 billion last March, and Visa further expanded its support for stablecoin settlement platforms last July.
DoorDash announced in its February earnings report that its total order count for Q4 2025 was 903 million, and total order value was $29.7 billion. The company is scheduled to announce its Q1 2026 earnings on May 6. This announcement, where DoorDash, a large-scale real-world payment platform, is introducing stablecoin settlement infrastructure, reconfirms the trend of stablecoins expanding beyond speculative assets to actual commercial payment methods.
