Iranian delegation during the first ceasefire negotiations with the United States
Iran warned that it suspects the motives behind US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire extension and that Iran could respond militarily if the US continues its naval blockade against Iran.
Iranian state media reported on the 22nd (local time), immediately after President Trump's announcement of a ceasefire extension, that Iran would not recognize the US ceasefire extension and would act according to its national interests.
Tasnim, Iran's semi-official news agency, reported that the continuation of the US naval blockade is an act of hostility, and as long as the blockade continues, Iran will at least not open the Strait of Hormuz and will lift the blockade by force if necessary.
An aide to Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, urged on the 21st on X (formerly Twitter) that "Trump's ceasefire extension is clearly a ploy to buy time for a surprise attack," and that Iran must respond to the US naval blockade with a "military response."
Speaker Ghalibaf is expected to lead the Iranian delegation if a second round of negotiations between the US and Iran takes place.
