Chainlink has launched a service that provides price data for stock and commodity-based tokens even on weekends and holidays. While traditional exchanges are closed, derivative market prices linked to these assets are used as reference prices.
According to Chainlink's official announcement on October 29, 'Chainlink 24/7' connects price information from off-market hours to regular trading, after-hours, and night trading data. Chainlink provides Oracle infrastructure to deliver external data to the blockchain, and this service expands the scope of existing weekday price data provision to include weekends and holidays.
Real-World Assets (RWAs), represented by stocks or commodities as blockchain tokens, may have different trading hours than their underlying markets. If traditional markets close while blockchain financial services continue to operate, lending services that accept tokens as collateral also require a price to evaluate the collateral value.
During off-market hours, Chainlink aggregates quotes from various platforms that trade Perpetual Futures, which are futures contracts without an expiration date. It explains that it filters out stale inputs and limits the impact of anomalous prices to create asset-specific reference prices. These prices reflect related derivative transactions, not real-time spot quotes from traditional exchanges that are closed.
The launch partner is the decentralized lending service Aave. Chainlink stated that Aave will utilize this data for collateral valuation of tokenized assets on its institutional lending platform Horizon, starting with high-volume US stocks. Lending services can use Data Feeds published on the blockchain, while trading platforms and prediction markets can use Data Streams to query prices when needed.
