According to the US Department of Justice, a Chinese national in his 40s has been extradited from the Netherlands to the United States on charges of participating in a global virtual asset investment fraud scheme targeting 174 US citizens. He is accused of approaching victims through social media, phone calls, texts, and dating apps, based on a fraud organization in Cambodia, and inducing investments on fake websites that mimicked actual exchanges. Accomplices allegedly laundered the proceeds through US shell companies and overseas bank accounts, transferring over $36.9 million to a single account at Deltec Bank in the Bahamas, converting it to USDT, and moving it to a wallet in Cambodia. Currently, eight accomplices have pleaded guilty, and the Chinese national remains in custody, awaiting a formal arraignment on November 30. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison, and at this stage of accusation, the principle of presumption of innocence applies.
