486,532 units sold worldwide... Increased sales in Europe offset the impact of the U.S. market slump
U.S. electric vehicle company Tesla's global vehicle sales in the third quarter of this year showed a slowdown, decreasing by 2%.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Reuters reported that Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of this year. This is a 2% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Most of the vehicles sold were Model 3 and Model Y, while sales of the high-end Cybertruck and discontinued Model X and Model S inventory totaled only 8,295 units.
It is interpreted that Tesla was also affected as the U.S. electric vehicle market generally slowed down.
However, the company's stock price rose by nearly 4% in early trading today, as its performance exceeded Wall Street's forecast of 461,000 units.
It also appears to have been influenced by the popularity of the Model Y in France and a surge in new Tesla registrations within the European Union (EU).
With supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) now approved in 8 European countries, performance in the European market is expected to improve further in the future.
Currently, 70% of Tesla's revenue comes from vehicle sales, but the company is also expanding its business into robotaxis (unmanned autonomous taxis) and humanoid robots.
Robotaxis without human safety operators are already operating in Texas and Florida.
Last month, Tesla also unveiled the 'Cybercab,' a robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals, in Texas, with plans to sell it to the general public at a retail price of $30,000 (approximately 40 million won) by the end of the year.
On the 15th of this month, the company will hold a demonstration event for the Roadster, a sports car that first debuted in 2017 and garnered significant attention.
