Bitcoin (BTC) has approached $85,000, bolstered by a significant upward revision in its price target by Wall Street giant Citi Group. Amidst a moderate uptrend across the broader cryptocurrency market, a shift of funds towards Bitcoin has been observed, fueling expectations for further breakthroughs.
According to cryptocurrency market data aggregator CoinMarketCap, as of October 1st (local time), Bitcoin was trading at $84,743.60, up 1.36% over 24 hours. During the same period, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization increased by 0.86%, and Bitcoin dominance slightly rose to 59.01%. Its correlation with gold also reached 72%, highlighting its movement as an inflation-hedge asset.
The upward revision by Citi Group ignited the rally. On the 1st, Citi Group analyst Alex Saunders raised Bitcoin's 12-month price target from the previous $82,000 to $113,000. Key reasons cited included increased activity in the cryptocurrency market, a favorable macroeconomic environment, and the potential for renewed inflows into Bitcoin spot ETFs. The upward revision by a major global bank is believed to have contributed to improved institutional investor sentiment.
The overall market preference for risk assets and the movement of funds into Bitcoin also supported the rise. With the entire cryptocurrency market up and Bitcoin dominance increasing, BTC appears to be leading the market's ascent more than altcoins. For the uptrend to continue, the crucial factor will be whether daily fund flows into US Bitcoin spot ETFs turn back into net inflows, according to analysis.
In the short term, $83,580 has been presented as a key support level. If this price level, corresponding to the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement zone, is maintained, the likelihood of testing the $85,500 resistance level increases. Conversely, if $83,580 is breached, it could be interpreted as a sign of increased profit-taking pressure, with a risk of the price retracing to $80,000.
Ultimately, institutional funds are key to further gains. While Citi Group's $113,000 price target and the price maintaining above key technical support levels bolster the bullish outlook, sustained upward momentum requires confirmation of actual fund inflows into Bitcoin spot ETFs over the next 48 hours. Market attention is focused on whether the $83,580 support holds and the potential for a breakthrough of $85,500.
