Jeong Jeom-sik Demands 'Reconsideration of Future Fund and Postponement of Virtual Asset Taxation' from Lee Hyung-il

Receiving a courtesy call from the new appointee, saying "You must be able to speak frankly to President Lee."

On the 30th, Jeong Jeom-sik, floor leader of the People Power Party, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Lee Hyung-il, who visited the National Assembly for a courtesy call, and demanded a comprehensive reconsideration of the plan to establish a future response fund and a postponement of taxation on virtual assets.

Regarding the future response fund, Floor Leader Jeong stated on this day, "Excess tax revenues are not permanent but temporary, whereas expenditures, once increased, are permanent and cannot be reduced. If tax revenues have increased due to temporary factors, policies should be formulated in a way that reduces the tax burden on the public."

He also pointed out regarding virtual assets that "taxation itself should not be rushed," adding, "There are many concerns that imposing taxes in a heavy-handed manner will only lead to capital outflow to places like Hong Kong or Singapore."

Furthermore, he urged, "Since both the ruling and opposition parties have prepared proposals for postponing or abolishing (taxation) on digital assets, which the younger generation is highly interested in, the government should also approach this cautiously."

Floor Leader Jeong, mentioning former Presidential Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom, stated, "There were many rumors that the Ministry of Economy and Finance lost its presence after President Lee Jae-myung took office," and "There were also many talks that Chief Kim led all economic policies, and the role of the Ministry of Economy and Finance disappeared."

He emphasized, "The Ministry of Economy and Finance, a collective of experts, should genuinely oversee the nation's economic policies and change the economic policy stance of the Lee Jae-myung administration," adding, "The Deputy Prime Minister must demonstrate the ability to speak frankly to the President as well."

In addition, he shared an anecdote about meeting with small and medium-sized business owners facing management difficulties, stating, "The boom in semiconductors is masking all economic difficulties, creating an illusion. Please carefully examine the reality of the common people's economy."

In response, Deputy Prime Minister Lee said, "As the ministry overseeing the economy, we will make special efforts to stably manage prices, which are fundamental to people's livelihoods, and to alleviate polarization in various parts of our society, such as housing and jobs." He added, "I look forward to frequent communication and creating good policies in the future."
