As 84% of cryptocurrency wallets linked to Iran and sanctioned by the U.S. and Israel are known to have processed all or almost all transactions with Tether (USDT), Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democratic staff director of the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, asserted that Tether should be immediately investigated and held accountable for potential sanctions violations. He emphasized, "Tether and USDT have become the core of Iran's shadow financial system," adding, "The Trump administration's clear lack of oversight over cryptocurrency issuers has harmed U.S. national security interests. For these reasons, I urge the Treasury Department and the Department of Justice to immediately investigate Tether and hold it accountable for potential violations of sanctions against Iran."
