The original cryptographer who led the development of the core protocol for the XRP Ledger has officially returned to completely overhaul the network's core code. With the rejoining of the veteran engineer who laid the foundation for Ripple's core technology, the network's security and processing performance are expected to be significantly enhanced.

According to U.Today, a virtual asset specialized media outlet, on September 26 (local time), Nik Bougalis, Ripple's eighth employee and a cryptographer, officially began the modernization of the XRP Ledger source code. Bougalis announced the start of code rewriting by registering a pull request (PR #8300) titled "I'm back, baby" on the official GitHub repository.

This return is regarded as a deep, low-level code modernization effort beyond mere staffing. Bougalis is completely transitioning fundamental data types to 64-bit elements wherever the architecture allows. The focus is on enhancing code safety during the compilation phase and preventing network failures under critical load conditions by entirely eliminating unsafe raw pointers and runtime constructors.

David Schwartz, Ripple's honorary Chief Technology Officer (CTO), enthusiastically welcomed Bougalis's return with four exclamation marks (!!!!). Schwartz had previously stated publicly, "The only reason I would interrupt my retirement and return to coding would be the opportunity to work with Bougalis again." H.
