Can XRP (Ripple) surpass $4 by 2028? While it has never broken the $4 barrier in the past 14 years, the biggest concern is that its fully diluted valuation (FDV) would reach $400 billion if it hits $4, based on its maximum supply.
According to the investment media outlet The Motley Fool on September 27 (local time), XRP's all-time high is $3.84, and it has never broken $4 in its trading history spanning over 14 years. In 2025, it attempted to reach $4 twice but failed both times. Last January, it rose to $3.40 before giving back its gains, and in the summer, it climbed to $3.65 before falling again.
The outlet identified XRP's supply as a major hurdle to breaking $4. The current circulating supply is approximately 63 billion tokens, but the maximum supply is 100 billion. Assuming all 100 billion tokens are in circulation by 2028, if XRP's price reaches $4, its fully diluted valuation would amount to $400 billion. This exceeds the current market capitalization of Ethereum (ETH), which is approximately $330 billion.
The Motley Fool also highlighted the scope of use for XRP and Ethereum. XRP focuses on serving as a bridge currency in a payment network based on Distributed Ledger Technology, while Ethereum is described as a blockchain ecosystem that powers various services based on Smart Contracts. The outlet analyzed that this difference in valuation could explain why XRP failed to break $4 twice in 2025.
However, the possibility of further price increases was not entirely ruled out. At the time of writing, XRP's price was $1.51, with a market capitalization of approximately $95 billion. The online prediction market Kalshi sees a 12% chance of XRP reaching $4 by the end of this year, with a 60% likelihood of it reaching $2. It was also noted that XRP has seen rapid price surges in short periods in the past.
Nevertheless, the outlet maintained a cautious view on the possibility of XRP breaking $4 by 2028. It explained that the burden lies in XRP failing to surpass $4 despite multiple surges over 14 years, and its fully diluted valuation reaching $400 billion if it were to hit $4. Especially given its two failures to break $4 in 2025, whether it can cross this price level by 2028 has been identified as a key point of interest.
