Market attention is focused on the possibility of a stock split for AMD (AMD) after 26 years, as it simultaneously broke its all-time high of $615 and a market capitalization of $1 trillion. However, despite the stock price exceeding $600, there has been no official signal that the board of directors is pursuing a stock split.
According to cryptocurrency media Watcher.Guru on September 25 (local time), AMD's stock price recently rose to an all-time high of $615, and its market capitalization also exceeded $1 trillion for the first time. AMD carried out three 3-for-2 stock splits and two 2-for-1 stock splits from 1978 to 1983, with the most recent split being a 2-for-1 split in August 2000.
AMD's stock price surge has been notable since Lisa Su took office as CEO. The stock, which was approximately $3 in 2014, surpassed $600 in 12 years. Despite the significant increase in stock price during this period, the AMD board has not carried out a single stock split.
The recent surge in stock price is not a result of a decrease in the number of outstanding shares. As of the end of June 2026, AMD's outstanding shares remained at approximately 1.63 billion, similar to a year ago. While there has been no significant change in the number of shares, the price per share has tripled during the same period.
The media reported that about 26 years have passed since the last stock split, but there are currently no signs that the board is preparing a new split. However, it explained that a stock price of $615 could be burdensome for some individual investors, and a stock split could increase investment accessibility. For example, analysis suggests that if the stock price were to drop to around $120, interest from individual investors could expand.
Wall Street's outlook on AMD also remains strong. In particular, as demand for artificial intelligence (AI) continues to expand, the company's data center business is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. However, as of now, AMD has not issued an official statement on whether the stock price increase and expectations for AI business growth will lead to a stock split.
