Block has joined the x402 Foundation and will provide Bitcoin Lightning Network support for x402, an open payment standard for AI agents, Bitcoin News reported. x402 is a standard designed to embed payment functionality directly into HTTP, allowing AI agents to autonomously pay for goods, services, and various agent tools without human intervention. Block stated that as the agent economy grows, billions of instant and low-cost micropayments are expected to occur, and the Lightning Network is well-suited to handle this payment demand.
