Tesla, which unveiled the 'Cybercab', an electric vehicle dedicated to autonomous robotaxis (unmanned taxis), in the US earlier this month, has begun a touring exhibition of the Cybercab in major Chinese cities.
According to the Sci-Tech Innovation Board Daily and Shanghai Securities News on the 18th, Tesla is exhibiting the Cybercab at a shopping mall in Shanghai from the 17th to the 21st. A similar exhibition was held in Beijing on the same day, marking the start of the China tour.
Previously, Tesla held a Cybercab unveiling event in Austin, Texas, its headquarters, on the 3rd, and reportedly held a public event in Japan on the 11th.
The Cybercab is a two-seater vehicle that lacks driving-related devices such as a steering wheel, driver's seat, and pedals, instead featuring a display at the front and expanded trunk space, with 'scissor doors' that open like wings.
However, Tesla stated that this touring exhibition in China is to showcase the vehicle's design and technological philosophy while parked, and is unrelated to any launch or sales plans in the Chinese market. It also stated that it does not yet plan to conduct robotaxi-related business in mainland China.
The Sci-Tech Innovation Board Daily assessed that the commercialization of Tesla's autonomous driving software 'Full Self-Driving' (FSD) in China, along with its economic viability including energy efficiency, and safety, remain challenges.
