On September 10, Jeffrey Fisher, the Supreme Court lawyer for former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), filed a petition with the Supreme Court, arguing that the $11 billion (approximately 14 trillion won) forfeiture order violates the Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits excessive fines. In a radio interview, Fisher argued that this $11 billion ruling is merely a monetary judgment, not a recovery of actual assets, and will completely block SBF's future income even after his release, leaving him in lifelong poverty. He also pointed out that during the trial, only customer losses were emphasized to the jury, and the bankruptcy estate's repayment plan, which had repaid 105% of customer claims due to successful investments like Anthropic, was controlled and blocked.
