Coinbase has rebranded its self-custody app, BASE, back to Coinbase Wallet. Ryan Kass, Product Lead for Coinbase Wallet, stated in an interview with The Block, "As the Base app evolved into a broader multi-chain trading platform, we concluded that it was reasonable to revert to the Coinbase Wallet name while retaining the benefits of the Base app." He added, "Coinbase prides itself on being able to move quickly and pivot when necessary. If the Base app was an experimental endeavor, Coinbase Wallet provides users with access to all on-chain finance." Last July, Coinbase announced the rebranding of Coinbase Wallet to Base, stating that "the Base app supports not only wallet functions but also social networking, mini-apps, and trading." Earlier this year, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced that "the Base app's social networking experiment was not successful. We will shift the app's direction to focus on trading."
