Bitcoin (BTC) recovered to the $77,500 level after news broke of Trump's discussions to end the war with Iran.
According to cryptocurrency media outlet Coingape on September 3 (local time), US President Donald Trump is discussing with senior aides a plan to formally declare an end to the war with Iran. Trump is also reportedly in favor of ending the war. US officials believe that continued economic pressure could force Iran to abandon its nuclear program or face difficulties in maintaining its regime.
Aides reportedly warned Trump that expanding military action could negatively impact the Republican Party's midterm elections. Trump plans to campaign directly in 35 key elections for last-minute support in the midterms. Trump told reporters this week that new military operations against Iran “will not continue for too long.”
Clashes continue in the Middle East. Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting US forces, and attacks targeting facilities in Kuwait were also reported. The Iranian military claimed to have struck US military bases in several countries. The US did not respond militarily to the previous night's attacks. The White House is reportedly concerned about surging oil prices and “nearly zero” inventory of interceptor systems.
In the energy market, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude traded below $91 per barrel. Brent crude remained around $95 per barrel. High oil prices fueled concerns about inflation and interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve (Fed). New York Fed President John Williams cited a strong US economy, artificial intelligence (AI), and technology investments as the main reasons for rising Treasury yields. Bitcoin climbed back above $77,000, and its 24-hour trading volume decreased by 12%.
On the prediction market Polymarket, 63% of participants bet in favor of Bitcoin reaching $85,000 by December 31, 2026. With the escalation of conflict between the US and Iran and oil price trends emerging as major variables in financial markets, Bitcoin recovered to the $77,000 level.
