SK Biopharmaceuticals [326030] has begun strengthening its drug development research capabilities by securing its own artificial intelligence (AI) computing infrastructure.
SK Biopharmaceuticals announced on the 2nd that it has introduced 128 NVIDIA B200 high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) based on the Blackwell architecture through 'Haein', a GPU cluster built by SK Telecom [017670].
SK Biopharmaceuticals expects that with the securing of large-scale computing resources, it will be able to quickly develop AI models optimized for research purposes and data characteristics.
The newly established AI infrastructure will be utilized in SK Biopharmaceuticals' translational research. Translational research is the process of connecting non-clinical research results, such as animal experiments, to human clinical results.
SK Biopharmaceuticals plans to further advance its research capabilities in various fields such as diseases, targets, and compounds through the AI transformation of translational research.
It also envisions creating a research cycle structure that leads to experimentation, analysis, and re-learning.
In addition, SK Biopharmaceuticals plans to establish its own AI system by building a dedicated large language model (LLM) so that AI can be used not only in research and development (R&D) but also in other business areas.
SK Biopharmaceuticals also plans to utilize the AI infrastructure for joint research with external companies, research institutions, and universities.
An official from SK Biopharmaceuticals said, "With the introduction of the AI infrastructure, we will increase productivity across all aspects of drug development, from discovering new drug candidates to supporting research decision-making," and added that data security will also be strengthened.
He continued, "We aim to connect this investment to the creation of new business opportunities," adding, "In the long term, we will maximize the utilization value of computing assets and AI capabilities by discovering various business models, including AI-based research services."
