Justin Sun, the founder of TRON (TRX), claimed that his actual assets could be much larger than Forbes' valuation.
According to BeInCrypto on September 1 (local time), Sun stated that Forbes and Bloomberg significantly underestimate the value of his cryptocurrency holdings when calculating his net worth. Forbes estimated Sun's net worth at $8.5 billion, ranking him 444th globally. Sun said he understands the conservative valuation method for his holdings, citing the concentration of his assets in cryptocurrency and its high price volatility.
On X (formerly Twitter), Sun claimed, “Bloomberg and Forbes only recognized about 20-30% of my cryptocurrency asset value when calculating my net worth.” He explained that they do not reflect the full value due to concentrated investment and high volatility. He had previously filed a lawsuit against Bloomberg to prevent the disclosure of his assets in 2025, citing concerns for his personal safety if specific asset details were revealed.
He also clarified his stance on asset allocation. Sun stated that he has held most of his personal assets in cryptocurrency for the past 14 years. He explained that he had received multiple recommendations from others to diversify his assets into real estate, stocks, or cash but did not accept them. Sun said, “Why should I swap for a second-best asset when I already hold what I believe is the best asset?”
Sun cited examples such as Tesla (TSLA) in 2012, early Bitcoin (BTC), Nvidia (NVDA) in 2016, and storage semiconductors in 2024. His logic is that investors who achieved significant profits did not easily sell their core assets during the upward trend. Corporate-level TRX holdings are also increasing. Tron Inc.'s (TRON) TRX holdings surpassed 711 million TRX in August.
The central issue surrounding Sun's net worth is the extent to which his cryptocurrency holdings are valued. Forbes currently estimates his net worth at $8.5 billion, but Sun argues that a significant portion of his crypto assets is excluded from the valuation, failing to reflect the true scale. He stated that he intends to continue a long-term holding strategy rather than converting cryptocurrency to cash or traditional assets.
