Mara Holdings (MARA) has released its Q2 earnings, showing a decrease in revenue and significantly missing market expectations. The company is focusing on a strategy that combines Bitcoin (BTC) mining with Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
According to Benzinga, a financial market media outlet, on August 6 (local time), Mara Holdings' Q2 revenue was $174.88 million, a 27% decrease from the same period last year. This fell short of the market expectation of $203.67 million. The adjusted diluted net loss per share was recorded at $1.60. The market had expected a profit of $0.26 per share.
Bitcoin mining performance was also disclosed. Mara Holdings mined 2,422 BTC in Q2 and made no additional purchases. Bitcoin holdings at the end of the quarter were 35,577 BTC, a 29% decrease from the same period last year.
Mara Holdings placed more emphasis on its AI infrastructure expansion strategy than on its earnings. In a letter to shareholders, the company addressed the shortage of sites ready for power supply and outlined its plan to support "next-generation computing" using existing infrastructure. Mara Holdings emphasized, "This is exactly the business Mara Holdings is building." It currently operates 19 data centers across four continents and recently secured rights to a 2 GW power supply site in Texas.
The company also made it clear that it does not view Bitcoin mining and AI businesses as separate. Mara Holdings stated, "Ultimately, we do not see Bitcoin mining and AI infrastructure as competing businesses. Both businesses are complementary areas that utilize the same foundational asset: power." It further predicted that companies controlling power would lead the next generation of AI infrastructure.
