Shiba Inu (SHIB) has become an official payment method at Dubai International Airport Duty Free.
According to U.Today, a cryptocurrency specialized media outlet, on August 5 (local time), Dubai Duty Free has adopted the Crypto.com Pay payment system. Shiba Inu can be used at offline stores and on the official websites of Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) in the UAE.
The payment options include 30 types of cryptocurrencies, including Shiba Inu. Major assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), XRP, and Dogecoin (DOGE) are also supported. Emirates Airlines had previously allowed cryptocurrency payments for airline tickets using the same payment system.
When a customer selects a cryptocurrency in the Crypto.com Pay application, the payment system converts the asset at real-time exchange rates. Dubai Duty Free does not directly receive cryptocurrencies but settles payments in UAE Dirham (AED). This structure ensures that the vendor does not bear the risk of price fluctuations.
The service is limited to UAE residents who have completed identity verification. Crypto.com has received official approval for prepaid payment services from the Central Bank of the UAE. Cryptocurrency payments within the airport also operate under a regulatory framework and government supervision.
Dubai plans to convert up to 90% of all transactions to cashless digital methods under its economic strategy D33. With Dubai Duty Free's adoption of cryptocurrency payments, Shiba Inu can now be used for purchasing airport duty-free goods in addition to airline tickets.
