U.S. President Donald Trump stated on the 7th (local time) that Japanese automaker Toyota's decision to relocate some production facilities from Mexico to the United States was thanks to his tariff policy.
President Trump wrote on social media Truth Social that day, "Toyota is moving from Mexico to the U.S. (Texas). A really big deal."
He added, "Tariffs are having an impact."
President Trump's remarks appear to be in response to NHK's report that day that Toyota plans to relocate its pickup truck production line in Mexico to Texas, USA.
Toyota announced plans to invest 580 billion yen (approximately 5.47 trillion won) to operate the Tacoma pickup truck production line at its San Antonio plant in Texas starting in 2030, creating over 2,000 jobs.
Toyota's move is interpreted as being in line with the Trump administration's tariff threats and demands for investment in production facilities within the United States.
Previously, Toyota had announced a plan to invest up to 10 billion dollars (approximately 15.26 trillion won) in the U.S. over the next five years.
Meanwhile, President Trump arrived in Ankara, Türkiye, that day and began his schedule to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit.
