Trump previously pressured, "Micron did it, Dell did it... Musk will also donate."
Four days after U.S. President Donald Trump subtly pressured SpaceX to donate shares to the so-called 'Trump Accounts', the SpaceX president pledged a donation worth approximately 500 billion won.
U.S. financial weekly Barron's reported on the 6th (local time) that Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX President, announced via X (formerly Twitter) that she would donate approximately 2 million shares of the company's stock to the Trump Accounts.
Converted at a stock price of $162, this amounts to $324 million, or approximately 495.7 billion Korean won.
President Shotwell explained, "My husband and I are delighted to gift one share of SpaceX stock we hold to the Trump Accounts for over 2 million children," adding, "It will go to accounts of 11-17 year olds living in areas with low average household income, with more emphasis on residents near our home in Central Texas."
The Trump Accounts are one of the key policies of the Trump administration, designed to help American children build assets by opening tax-deferred savings and investment accounts.
In particular, for newborns born between January 1, last year, and December 31, 2028, the U.S. administration provides a one-time support of $1,000 each.
Micron has pledged $250 million to the Trump Accounts, and Michael Dell, founder of Dell Technologies, has promised to donate $250 each to 25 million children.
President Trump has also requested Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO and the world's richest man, to support the Trump Accounts through donations.
In an interview with CNBC on the 2nd, he said, "I think [Musk] will donate [to the Trump Accounts]," adding, "Micron, a great company, has already done it, and Michael Dell is a really great guy."
However, CEO Musk remains silent.
He has previously shown a negative attitude towards donations, calling it "really difficult."
Although he operates the Musk Foundation, a charity, a significant portion of the $474 million in donations in 2024 reportedly flowed to non-profit organizations operated by his close associates.
