Ethereum is being shaken by a double whammy of institutional capital outflow and internal uncertainty within the foundation. Demand for Ethereum spot ETFs, once considered a driving force for market growth, is rapidly cooling, leading to a sharp decline in investor sentiment.
According to investment media FXStreet on May 27 (local time), Ethereum (ETH) is under bearish pressure due to signs of slowing institutional demand and internal restructuring issues within the Ethereum Foundation. In particular, a net outflow of $216 million from Ethereum spot ETFs last week led to analysis that institutional investors' caution is growing.
Market instability is spreading beyond simple price declines to internal problems within the foundation. Recent reports of senior researchers leaving and internal restructuring within the Ethereum Foundation have raised concerns about leadership stability and future strategic direction. The media pointed out that while such changes could potentially be positive in the long run, the market generally reacts sensitively to uncertainty.
For institutional investors, in particular, the timing itself is considered a burden. Over the past year, Ethereum has maintained its dominance in the smart contract market while also facing competition from rapidly growing rival chains. In this process, not only network fundamentals but also governance stability, technological leadership, and long-term execution capabilities are emerging as key investment decision factors.
However, there is also analysis that the long-term outlook is not entirely negative. Vitalik Buterin recently re-emphasized his vision to make the Ethereum Foundation's organizational structure more streamlined and operate with a focus on decentralization and resilience. In particular, Buterin's mention of reducing his influence within the foundation has even been suggested to strengthen the decentralization of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Li Xing Gan, a financial market strategist at Exness, analyzed, "Ethereum spot ETF outflows, foundation restructuring, and the departure of senior personnel are putting pressure on market sentiment." He added, "While Buterin's long-term vision offers some relief, if weak institutional demand continues, the market is likely to maintain a cautious stance for some time." He further stated, "However, Buterin's comments on reducing his influence could lead to a more decentralized Ethereum structure, which could limit further downside."
