Suspected violation of Public Official Election Act, Public Service Ethics Act, etc... Complaint filed
The election committee (Dangchan Camp) for Democratic Party of Korea Incheon mayoral candidate Park Chan-dae filed a complaint with the police on the 22nd against People Power Party Incheon mayoral candidate Yoo Jeong-bok and his wife regarding the 'omission of virtual asset declaration' allegations.
Dangchan Camp submitted a complaint to the Incheon Provincial Police Agency against candidate Yoo and his wife, Ms. Choi, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and the Public Service Ethics Act.
Representative Lee Hoon-ki, the chief spokesperson for Dangchan Camp, held a press conference in front of the Incheon Provincial Police Agency before submitting the complaint, stating, "We have all clearly confirmed the vivid voice recording of candidate Yoo's spouse conspiring to hide virtual assets with asset managers." He added, "It would be a grave mistake to try to gloss over it by making excuses in front of clear evidence of a crime."
He continued, "Candidate Yoo's side is hastily bringing out his brother's statement and bank transaction details, offering the clumsy excuse that '
it was money invested on behalf of his brother>.'" He added, "This has nothing to do with uncovering the truth and only adds to the criminal charges."
He further emphasized, "Hundreds of millions of won exchanged hands, but there is no legally binding loan agreement." He stressed, "In addition to the omission in public officials' asset declarations, it is 'evasion of gift tax' and a serious crime of 'violation of the Financial Real Name Act.'"
He also urged, "The police must immediately launch a full-scale investigation into the coin wallets and overseas exchange accounts." He added, "Candidate Yoo must transparently disclose financial data, including coin wallets, and faithfully cooperate with the investigation."
Previously, one media outlet raised suspicions that candidate Yoo's spouse held 21,000 virtual assets but transferred them to an overseas exchange, omitting them from the local election candidate's asset declaration.
Democratic Party lawmakers escalated their offensive by releasing related audio recordings the previous day, while candidate Yoo's side responded by releasing three rebuttal documents and stating that it was "not subject to asset declaration," while also announcing legal action.
