A Bitcoin (BTC) wallet that had been dormant for over 12 years moved its entire holdings to a new wallet, drawing market attention. Blockchain tracking service Whale Alert detected that the dormant address moved 500 BTC around 19:16 UTC on Sunday.
NewsBTC reported on the 13th that the Bitcoin address, which had shown no activity since November 2013, transferred its entire holdings to a new wallet. According to Whale Alert, the value of these holdings was estimated at $40,717,094. In 2013, the same amount was worth $482,898.
The sending address is a wallet starting with 1KAA8GGhVjjUjVTz1HKAjCyGN, and the receiving address is a new wallet starting with bc1qm6m6d33d02edr0k8yj9jgt027zl6d. The owner of the original wallet has not been publicly identified, and the reason for this move is unknown.
This transfer garnered market attention because the receiving address did not match any known cryptocurrency exchange wallets. While large-scale Bitcoin movements directly to exchange wallets often suggest a potential sell-off, no such link was confirmed in this transaction.
NewsBTC reported that this move was discussed as a potential security update, redistribution of assets, or a simple wallet transfer by a long-term dormant holder. However, without confirmation of the owner or the actual purpose of the move, no specific reason was concluded.
The reactivation of old Bitcoin wallets has been a recurring phenomenon recently. Last July, eight Satoshi-era wallets each moved 10,000 BTC, attracting significant attention in the cryptocurrency market. It was reported that those holdings moved for the first time in 14 years.
NewsBTC explained that early Bitcoin holders are re-evaluating their positions during price upswings. This 500 BTC transfer was presented as another instance in the trend of old wallet reactivations that has continued for several months.
The market did not react drastically to this transfer. However, as an unidentified wallet moved a large amount of Bitcoin, on-chain analysts and market participants are expected to monitor for any further movements from the newly activated address.
