The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) submitted an amicus brief supporting Kalshi in a lawsuit in Ohio related to the prediction market platform Kalshi. According to The Block, the CFTC argued that Ohio's classification of Kalshi as an unlicensed sports betting platform constitutes an infringement by the state government on federal jurisdictional authority. CFTC Commissioner Michael Selig stated, "Since prediction markets operate across state lines, federal-level regulation is necessary," adding, "We will not allow excessive state government intervention to undermine the CFTC's authority." Previously, the CFTC has also been engaged in legal battles with several other states, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Arizona, and New York, over the authority to regulate prediction markets.
