The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that it is in discussions with major U.S. professional sports leagues to strengthen oversight of sports-based prediction markets. According to CoinDesk, CFTC Commissioner Michael Selig stated, “We have already signed a data-sharing agreement (MOU) with Major League Baseball (MLB) and are in discussions with other professional leagues. Contracts for sports events are not simple gambling but federally regulated derivatives. We have already filed 5-6 lawsuits against state governments attempting to restrict related markets.”
