If import price manipulation is discovered, evaded taxes will be collected, and a criminal investigation will be requested.
Customs investigations will be conducted into importers' profiteering activities, taking advantage of high oil prices and supply chain instability caused by the Middle East war.
The Customs Service announced on the 11th that it would begin customs investigations targeting 10 importers of special management items for public livelihood prices.
The targets of this investigation are companies that import seafood, which are essential food items, medical supplies, which are government supply and demand management items, and daily necessities with large discrepancies between import and distribution prices.
The Customs Service selected the targets by comprehensively analyzing price fluctuation trends between import prices and domestic sales prices, and suspicions of high or low import price declarations compared to the same industry, among the top 112 companies in terms of import volume for the relevant goods.
During this investigation, if import price manipulation is discovered, the Customs Service plans to collect evaded taxes and immediately request a criminal investigation for intentional price manipulation.
Customs Commissioner Lee Myung-gu stated, "We will thoroughly track unfair trade practices that harm the stability of people's livelihoods and establish a fair market order."
