Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has hinted at the possibility of doing “something special” for XRP holders after Ripple's future initial public offering (IPO). While Ripple is not pursuing an IPO immediately, the mention of the company's potential entry into the public market and benefits for XRP holders has sparked increased interest within the XRP community.
According to the cryptocurrency media outlet The Crypto Basic on May 8, Garlinghouse discussed Ripple's stance on an IPO and potential benefits for XRP holders during a “Crypto In America” podcast interview with journalist Eleanor Terrett. Garlinghouse stated that Ripple is not prioritizing an IPO, citing the recent lackluster performance of crypto-related companies in the public market.
Garlinghouse explained that BitGo and Gemini have not shown significant performance in the public market environment. He also mentioned reports that Kraken had postponed its IPO plans. He added that there are advantages to Ripple remaining a private company, implying that it allows for more freedom to speak without immediate pressure from regulators or legal teams.
However, Garlinghouse did not completely rule out the possibility that Ripple might consider an IPO someday. While emphasizing that Ripple's IPO is not an immediate focus, he left room for the question of whether the company could offer additional benefits to XRP holders if it were to enter the public market.
Terrett asked if XRP holders could directly benefit from Ripple's success if Ripple were to go public in the future. Garlinghouse responded that Ripple already hopes XRP holders benefit through ecosystem growth and the expanded global adoption of XRP. He added, “If you're asking, 'Could Ripple do something special for those who hold XRP when it goes public?' Maybe. But it's not something that's immediate.”
These remarks quickly gained attention within the XRP community. Community figure Xaif Crypto commented on social media that Garlinghouse had lightly mentioned special measures for XRP holders in connection with Ripple's IPO. He interpreted the remarks as a positive sign for the long-term relationship between Ripple and XRP holders.
In the interview, Garlinghouse also stated that Ripple views the XRP community as a significant driving force in key decision-making. He explained that Ripple considers the impact on XRP adoption when making decisions about acquisitions, partnerships, and external investments. He also emphasized that Ripple supports high-quality digital asset treasury companies.
Garlinghouse cited Evernorth as an example of a company Ripple wants to grow within its ecosystem. Evernorth has been pursuing the establishment of the largest XRP treasury with Ripple's support. Garlinghouse said, “We see that as good for the community. It's good for Ripple shareholders. It's good for everyone.”
