Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has recalled 218,868 vehicles due to a delayed rearview camera video, Reuters and other media reported on the 7th (local time).
The recall includes 2020-2023 Model Y, 2017 and 2021-2023 Model 3, 2021-2023 Model X, and 2021-2023 Model S vehicles.
According to Fox News, these vehicles are equipped with 'Hardware Version 3' (HW3), a self-driving exclusive computer designed by Tesla itself, and Tesla has not been producing this hardware since January 2024.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) pointed out that the delayed rearview camera video in Tesla vehicles could create a risk of collision when backing up.
In its recall notice, NHTSA stated, "Loss of the rearview camera image can affect the driver's rear visibility and increase the risk of a crash," adding, "Drivers may need to use shoulder checks and mirrors (side mirrors, rearview mirror) when backing up."
Tesla stated that there have been no deaths or injuries due to the rearview camera issue so far, and explained that 27 insurance claims and 2 reports possibly related to this have been received.
