An analysis suggests that XRP may fall to a long-standing demand zone against Bitcoin (BTC) before starting its next major bull run.
According to crypto news outlet Cryptopotato on November 2 (local time), analyst ChartNerd challenged the common misconception that XRP simply follows Bitcoin. Investors expecting an immediate recovery might be getting ahead of themselves. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), he overlaid XRP/BTC on the XRP/USD monthly chart and marked a green demand zone at the bottom of the pair's range. He explained that the strongest catch-up rallies in history began after the pair returned to that zone.
The first instance was from April to July 2014. Around June of that year, XRP/USD formed a bottom and then a higher low, leading to the 2017-2018 rally. A similar pattern occurred in October 2020 and January 2021. XRP started a bullish period against Bitcoin after already forming a price bottom. While Bitcoin eventually set new all-time highs, XRP, despite not doing so, produced significant catch-up rallies. The analyst noted that April-October 2024 was similar. This preceded XRP's march to a new record high of $3.65 in July 2025. However, he candidly pointed out that XRP has lagged Bitcoin for at least eight years. It was only after Bitcoin repeatedly broke its all-time highs that XRP surpassed its 2018 peak.
The analyst also highlighted resistance lines that have repeatedly turned back XRP/BTC since 2020. It was also halted at the 2021 and 2025 peaks. ChartNerd's assessment is that for XRP to win again, it must first revisit the historical demand zone once more, as the pair continues to form lower highs. If the market is emerging from a bearish phase, funds may first flow into Bitcoin, and XRP's strongest inflows typically come later in the original asset's cycle. This means XRP buyers will have to endure another period of weakness against Bitcoin before the next significant rally.
October's performance further supports the bearish argument. According to CoinGecko data, XRP fell by nearly 2% in 7 days and almost 16% in a month. Its value has halved over the year and is approximately 65% below its all-time high. It is the 5th largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. Despite XRP's double-digit decline in October, XRP spot ETFs saw less than $19 million in inflows, marking a seventh consecutive month of net inflows. However, this is significantly less than the $121 million in September and $159 million in August.
