Coinbase has obtained approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for the establishment of its own derivatives clearing organization (DCO), 'Coinbase Clearing LLC'. With this, Coinbase has secured a DCO in addition to its existing Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) and Designated Contract Market (DCM) licenses, completing a full-stack infrastructure that allows it to self-process everything from the issuance to trading and clearing of derivatives within the CFTC's regulatory framework. The newly launched clearing house will be the first USDC-native based system to support a 24-hour real-time settlement structure. Based on this DCO approval, Coinbase is expected to accelerate the launch of new regulated derivative products, such as individual stock perpetual futures, and push for the expansion of its on-chain financial infrastructure.
